La La Liners

La La Liners

Eyeliner really defines your look & can change it drastically. I usually go to work without eyeliner, but during the weekends I have a bit more time on my hands & I’ll spend an extra minute doing an eyeliner above my upper lashes. When going out I’ll also line under my bottom lashes. On my waterline I only use pencil, which I’ve left out of this post. Let me talk you through these four liquid/gel/pen liners which all have a different look to suit various moods or events. Think “very black” for going out, or “blackened brown” for work days!

MAC Cosmetics Fluidline in Wholesome, NYC High Definition Liquid Eyeliner in Extra Black (gifted), Essence I Love Style Liquid Eyeliner in Ultra Black & Rimmel London Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Black (gifted).

Left to right (each product featured on two swatches: a fine & thick line):

NYC High Definition Liquid Eyeliner in Extra Black: This one is not completely black, so you might need to go over your line a few times. The swatch I made comes off a tad lighter on camera, although it still feels like a blackish brown to me. I do like softening my look by not using a deep black & this one is perfect for that purpose. I’ve had this one for about two months now & it hasn’t dried out at all, which is a huge plus as I’ve had some other budget brands dry out extremely fast. The pen is very handy to work with, especially when you’re in a hurry as it is more forgiving than for instance liquid liner.
Essence I Love Style Liquid Eyeliner in Ultra Black: I really love liquid eyeliner for evening looks as it is so defining and precise. If you don’t like the harsh look of only applying liquid eyeliner, try doing a line with a pencil eyeliner first & go over it with liquid liner. It’ll soften the look. This one by Essence is very budget and does a great job. It is extremely well pigmented and serves its color name justice: it really is ultra black. It stays put for the whole evening/night, but comes off as easy with a regular eye make-up remover. However, if you’re not used to using an eyeliner I would suggest trying out a gel liner first as a lot of people find liquid eyeliners hard to work with!
Rimmel London Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Black: This one has deserved its spot in my handbag as it is a gel liner & liner brush in one! It’s a bit slower at drying than usual & I do feel like you need to go over your liner twice to have an even coverage liner, but the end effect however is still well pigmented. Gel liner is a very easy product to work with, so I would definitely advise eyeliner beginners to start off with a gel liner.
MAC Cosmetics Fluidline in Wholesome: My favorite liner still is MAC Cosmetics’ Fluidline. Wholesome (limited edition from the Shop MAC, Cook MAC collection) is a blackened brown color, which is perfect for a daily look as it is not as harsh as Blacktrack. It’s extremely well pigmented ans dries quickly. It doesn’t smudge or transfer onto your upper eyelid & stays put all day. You do need to purchase a liner brush in order to be able to use this product: I would advise a MAC #210 Brush or a angled brush such as Benefit’s Get Bent Brush.

And one last advice: if you doubt on how to apply your eyeliner, or if that perfect cat eye liner just isn’t working out for you.. Turn to YouTube! Everything you would ever need to know on how to do your eyeliner is on there, trust me.
