Dior Vernis Mystic Magnetics

I’ve been a bit high on Fall releases lately.. Why is everything so beautiful? I’m sure every beauty fiend will have difficulties making the right choices, unless of course you have the funds to just buy it all. But since we usually rarely do (at least I don’t!), I’m happy to guide you around. I’ve been laying low on the nail polish side lately (I have too many nail polishes, I must have given half of my collection away to friends & family already!), but this week a very special polish landed on my doorstep. Sure there’ve been a lot of magnetic nail polishes in the past, but as far as I know this is Dior’s first one: Dior Vernis Mystic Magnetics 802. And it’s really pretty!

So why metallics for this collection? Well, this one is all about Christian Dior and how he started his own fashion house many years ago. One gorgeous night in April 1946, he was wondering whether he should give up his dream of starting his own line. While he was pondering, he tripped over a metallic star in the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. He took it as a sign and the next day, he decided to create his own house. He carried that star with him daily. How great of a story is that?

The polish is very opaque and can be applied without the magnet with just one coat. It’s very easy to use with the awesome Dior brush as usual (tapered, flat and amazing!), and it’s not too stripey. I’ve seen worse with metallics. It’s great that this polish can also be worn without the magnetic effect, since that way you kind of own two different polishes. The magnet will add a fun effect and will darken the polish. I never comment on how long polishes wear since I’ve got horribly brittle nails that usually chip after a day. Right now I’ve been wearing it for a day and still no signs of chipping. Usually, that’s already a good sign for me.

And these are my very first pictures taken in my new light box! My boyfriend got me a spiffy light box set for my birthday and I couldn’t be happier with it. He knows I always struggle during winter time or overcast days, so this is such a help! I actually made these pictures around 11PM, which I never could before. Insert smiley face. As you can see the effect is very interesting & it even looks stronger in person. The one thing you need with this set is patience: it took me a while to figure out the best way to get a strong effect and not smudge anything. I find it best to hold support the magnet on your nail bed and hold the rest of the magnet as close as possible to your nail. Also, you’ll have to be quick. And with quick I mean really quick. Apply the second coat of polish, and then get that magnet as close to your nail as possible, as fast as you can. The faster & the closer; the better the result will be. I also found the magnet to work best when you hold the curved end towards your tips.

This Dior Vernis Mystic Magnetics 802 will be available from September 4th on in Belgium and has a suggested retail price of €28.90. The collection is already available in the US and will be landing in the UK on August 16th.

I have one more Dior gem (one of the Diorshow fusion mono’s) to show you soon, but I still have to play around with it and take pictures. Stay tuned for more on Guerlain, as well as Chanel too. I have heaps lined up! Good thing it’s raining today.. Plenty of time to blog tonight!
