With one of my best friends almost hunting me down before parties telling me to wear lipstick more often (“you have to, plumlips!”), I was happy to try out some of the Estée Lauder fall lippies from their Metallics collection. Having never tried a ‘metallic’ lipstick, I was a bit curious. You know I love using Estée Lauder (Double Wear foundation + powder is my favourite face combo), but after one little encounter with a matte lipstick that was a little too drying.. I was eager to find out what this experience would be like.
In the Fall collection (called The Metallics created by Tom Pecheux), there are 6 limited edition Vivid Shine lipsticks and 12 shades of the High Intensity Lip Lacquer. There’s a special ‘amplified gold & silver pearl complex’ in the Vivid Shine lipsticks that creates a dimensional luminous effect, with clusters of pearls that ensure a chromatic colour. The shades have a chrome finish, and they supposedly look good on any skin tone. According to Estée Lauder, of course. The packaging is very luxurious and completely gold as we’re used to with the brand. I’m a huge fan of this since lipsticks are little everyday luxuries women like to enjoy - whether it’s tucked away in your purse or where everyone can see on your desk.. You want it to be pretty. These are. Totes!
Tom Pecheux was inspired by the city for this collection; by the modern architecture with loads of metal & glass. I feel like Gilded Honey has most of this ‘metal’ look in terms of finish, and I’ll also confess that I’m not a huge fan of the shade. It’s not right for my skin tone & washes me out, while I feel it would be prettier without the strong metallic sheen. In terms of pigmentation and smoothness it’s great, but it’s just not for me. Hot Lava & Mirrored Orchid on the other hand are beautifully intensely pigmented lipsticks with the perfect dose of metallic sheen. Removing the excess with a tissue gives the lipstick a very soft and fragile look, perfect for any occasion.
Tom Pecheux created the High Intensity Lip Lacquer to bring a very unique, luxurious, wet finish to the lips, packed with heaps of colour. He wanted the product to bring out sensuality & femininity, as well as sophistication. He suggests to be subtle on the eyes when using these highly pigmented lip lacquers, especially when using reds. This is my very favourite product of the collection: the pigmentation of Wet Plum is spectacular (OH MY!) and it has a good lasting power as well. It feels like lipstick, but has a handy lipgloss-like flat applicator. And it’s so.. shiny! The wet look is very interesting, and it stays put.
The Metallics is a limited edition collection that has been out for a small while, so if you’re looking to buy some of these products you’d want to be quick and head to the Estée Lauder counter! The lipsticks retail for €26.89, the lip lacquers for €24.83.
