The Art Of Relaxing

image

If there’s one thing I have a hard time with.. it’s relaxing. I’m always doing something, am aware of my work or personal phone and am constantly contemplating work things, daily life struggles and posts or projects I want to realise blog-wise. I even have a hard time taking a bath and relaxing! I can merely stay in there for ten minutes.. While a lot of you spend an hour or more in the bath tub (I did a little Twitter research a few days ago.. you’re all clearly very passionate about taking a bath and doing it properly!), I’m already bored or bothered ten minutes in. While I’m trying my best to relax properly at home, it seems like it’s much easier to let go of thoughts and worries at a wellness. I had never actually visited a true wellness before until I was invited to Thermae Boetfort, and after some initial clumsiness I discovered the fine art of truly relaxing.

Thermae Boetfort is a pretty large thermae complex just outside of Brussels, with the regular wellness-y treats like three different sauna’s, a steam bath, an inside and outside pool and different kinds of hot tubs. In the first picture you see this small ‘cellar’ filled with warm water (just above body temperature), with coloured lighting in place to create a very tranquil mood. It’s my very favourite spot in Thermae Boetfort - I felt like I could lay there for hours and felt all of the stress and worries fall off my shoulders.

There’s also a restaurant and a hotel in the same building, for whoever wants a full day or weekend full of relaxing. The restaurant serves a variety of dishes, but also healthy smoothies to enjoy when you’re taking a break from all that wellnessing. In the last picture you can see one of the two amazing outside pools, which are connected to two small indoor pools (one for the nude area & one for the swimsuit area). I love swimming outside when it’s already dark - whenever the weather allows it, of course. There are also a few hot tubs on the outside premises; a perfect spot for chit chatting.

I was lucky enough to also try out one of the massages Boetfort has to offer - there’s an experienced team present & a variety of different massages to choose from. The regular back massage that I chose lasts about 30 minutes and is just heavenly! This was a nice addition to the visit, although I don’t feel like I’d always need an extra massage to make a visit worthwhile. Drop me in one of those hot baths for half an hour and I’m as relaxed as can be!
