There’s no need to lecture you on the importance of eyebrows, I’m quite sure. They frame your face, bring out your eyes & it’s a small thing to do that actually can make quite a big difference. I’ve been doing my eyebrows myself ever since I started working full time since I just couldn’t imagine finding the time for an appointment on an already always busy Saturday. Lately I had been growing them out as well because I did go overboard in the past, but it still left me unsatisfied. I watched a YouTube video once about HD brows, but after some quick research I learned that no-one here in Belgium practiced the technique at the time and I looked no further. Fast forward to about a month ago, when aesthetician Ilse e-mailed me that she’s followed a bunch of official HD Brows courses in the UK and is now the one and only Master in HD Brows in Belgium. And whether I wanted to try the technique out, perhaps? Well duh. Nothing like a healthy dose of curiosity to get me to book an appointment on a Saturday morning. Cause I’m always in the mood for some perfect eyebrows.
HD Brows is all about shaping your eyebrows to match your face. This techniques involves colouring, waxing, tweezing, threading (although Ilse doesn’t use this technique) and trimming (sorry for the horrible phone pictures of these techniques). Sounds like a lot, and it kinda is. But it’s so precise! Since no single face is the same, Ilse took the time to really ‘measure’ my facial features. I can’t recall any aesthetician ever taking so much time to make sure my arch was in the right place. For sparse eyebrows, she maps out where to dye some extra hairs in order to make them appear bigger. For bushy brows, she trims them down so they look polished and groomed. Chez moi, she went for the full shebang, including a little colour to match my dark hair. And the results are.. Just amazing. I can’t imagine going back to my bushy brows again (although I did deem them to be just fine before I had my HD brows done), and I’m going back tomorrow for a touch-up. She leaves a month between touch-ups and I think that’s just fine. Although it’s kind of ‘forbidden’ to pluck hairs yourself in between sessions, I did remove a couple of freakishly fast growing hairs after about two weeks.. Sorry Ilse. I just couldn’t resist.`
The first appointment is the most expensive at €45.00 (or just €35.00 if you’re still a student) and will take between 45 minutes and an hour. I kinda wanted to doze off while she was mapping everything out and shaping my eyebrows, but I also once fell asleep at the dentist so perhaps I’m not a good reference. I guess I just want to point out how this is not overly painful process - I know a lot of girls are scared of these techniques.
If you feel like getting this done too.. I can only encourage you! Ilse D is based in Ghent & is the only place in Belgium where you can get your brows shaped in HD. Check out the website of her parlour Ilse D Esthetiek here, or you can also drop her an e-mail on firstname.lastname@example.org for more info. You won’t regret it. I’ll be paying her monthly visits for sure!
