Shopping Tip: Fin du Jour

There's a new beauty hotspot in my city: Fin du Jour. And not only is this a beautiful store, the story behind it is also pretty rad. Owner Miriam Rouw used to be a lawyer but after going into practice quickly realised that she wanted to do something else with her life. One huge career change later, she opened Fin du Jour and stocked it with beautiful brands she used to hunt for during holidays. She has an eye for special and qualitative brands - nothing you'll find here is ordinary.
The first brand that I am completely excited for: Aesop. This Melbourne based brand is all about the good stuff, using both plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients. A tad pricey, but very much so worth it if you're into fairly independent brands with a beautiful house style - and did I mention that these products smell really good too? Matching glass bottles of hand wash and lotions are a definitely must for any design bathroom or restroom.
I was pleasantly surprised to come across the brand Heeley here as well - I became acquainted with this brand at the lovely South Place Hotel in London, where the amenities are by James Heeley in the gorgeous scent Oranges & Lemons Say The Bells Of St. Clement's. James Heeley is a talented autodidact perfumer and has some captivating scents that call for unique and bold personalities to wear them. Also available here is the legendary candle brand Cire Trudon - Miriam sure knows to pick her brands. A great gift for anyone who's fond of candles, who wouldn't want to own a candle from the world's oldest candlemaker?
Make-up mavens will enjoy finding Dutch brand Ellis Faas here. With award-winning packaging and a portfolio that makes her one of the most important makeup artists from our time, this luxury brand is a treat to discover. Mostly liquid products (there are only three powder products in the range), everything's packaged in nifty packaging that you can fit in metallic cases. Although I found the foundation and concealer a little too sheer for my skin, I did really like the take on liquid eye makeup. I really should get one of those nifty eyeshadow pens during my next visit. Another great gifting brand Miriam stocks is Portugese brand Claus Porto, these colourful soaps are the perfect little gift for any occasion. You'll find many different ones here.
Other brands available here are Perricone MD, Uslu Airlines, Escentric Molecules, Rahua, David Mallet, and more. You can find Fin du Jour at Vlaanderenstraat 80 in Gent (Belgium), or online at www.findujour.com.
