Birchbox lands in Belgium & when to subscribe
Saturday, November 01, 2014
It's been a while since I've been excited about any kind of beauty box, which is mainly because we only had one box in Belgium that didn't always float my boat as a beauty enthusiast. I love being excited about new things, but I guess it depends on how into beauty you already are whether or not you're happy with brands that are already available in your country, or whether you want to discover things that are not (or less) available where you live. I am one of those chicks that wants something even more when it's only available overseas (hello Hourglass, Bath & Bodyworks & friends), so I obviously choose the latter. There's a new beauty box in town these days - although not completely new since it started out in the US years ago and is slowly conquering Europe too. The good thing about that? All the brands. All the discoveries! I'm talking Birchbox of course, so let me show you the first box that shipped to Belgium and let me divulge my secret perfect timing to subscribe.
The Birchbox is a small cardboard box with a little drawstring bag inside that contains a selection of products (sample or full size) that have been selected and targeted to your profile. This should mean that if you've let Birchbox know that you have oily skin, that you shouldn't receive any products for parched, dry skin. Obviously I can't comment on that yet - but it is something important as you do want to use each and every product you receive.. of course. The box itself costs 10 euro, with shipping for 3 euro. With a total of 13 euro per box, this one is officially the cheapest box I've tried! And even if it's cheap it does not compensate with cheaper products.. If you like a product in your box then there's no need to stress over finding a retail point - Birchbox has an online shop that stocks all of these products, as well as some other carefully selected items. How great is that?
This month's box is contains five products, of which two full size. A full size red Lollipops nail polish, a luxury The Balm Stainiac sample, a travel sized Verveine body milk by Huygens, a small sample of Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect and a full size Natura Brasil hand cream. Not everyone gets the same box - you can check out the other products that were distributed in other boxes here. Birchbox works together with a lot of exciting brands on an international level, which means we just get to ride along and enjoy the fun! I like the versatility of this box - there's make-up, a hair product, two body products & a nail varnish. While I'm not completely blown away by this box (personal preferences - not a huge stain & red nail varnish fan), I did take a look at the previous boxes and must say that those looked fabulous, even containing a Beautyblender, Kevin Murphy shampoo & Laura Mercier luxury samples. It's great to see high end products in this box!
So I hear you thinking: "Isabelle, should I go ahead and give it a go right now?" No. Not just right now. You need to wait until next week, because then the Christmas stuff will be available. I'm going to purchase myself a Prêt-à-Craquer box with a three month gift card. This gift box retails for €49.00 and contains a three month gift card, a full size original Beautyblender, an Eyeko Fat Eye Stick and a small Aussie Three Minutes Miracle bottle. You'd normally pay €39.00 for three months, so I do think this is a great value - especially as a gift! This type of gift thing is also available with 6 months or 12 months gift cards. If the November box is looking good I might activate my card from that month on if possible, or either way I want it activated from December on because I've already seen how that box is going to look.. And it's mighty worth it!
If you're Belgian and you want to order yourself some Birchbox too, head over to their website. It's all in French though as I think all logistics are handled through the French office, so get that Google translator working if you don't speak the language.
