Trial & Error: Bourjois Happy Light Concealer

Some products don’t really work for what you had intended them to, but prove to be a miracle worker for other purposes or areas. That’s exactly what happened with me and the new Bourjois Happy Light Concealer. Since I knew it was deemed to be ultra-covering, I was eager to try it on my dark under-eye circles because they can be.. quite the hassle. Unfortunately, this one gets into fine lines within minutes and is just much too creamy to work under the eyes. I didn’t want to give up on it just yet.. So I tried it on my blemishes, acne scars and overall red areas and.. It worked! Like a charm, even.

It’s a pity that this concealer doesn’t work under my eyes because it was supposedly formulated especially to do so. It can also be used as an eyeshadow primer according to the brand.. Which I haven’t tried, but if you would like to try this I’d suggest not using too much so it doesn’t “cream up” too much. I just stick to paint pots and primers as eyeshadow base, but who am I to judge! The compact has a handy little built in mirror which makes it perfect to carry with you on-the-go

The results are quite obvious: my redness has completely vanished & the scars are concealed. This is a perfect product to do small touch-ups: use just a tiny little dab of product per scar or pimple and it’ll blend in perfectly with the rest of your make-up. It works perfectly on larger areas as well, canceling redness and concealing like a true boss. Do remember that when using full coverage concealer on larger areas, there’s a good chance that the creamy texture will be visible from up close. In those cases, the Happy Light concealer is not too cakey, but not invisible either. There is no single full coverage concealer that has an invisible or unnoticeable finish, so I don’t mind. I understand that redness, scars and acne can cause insecurities that prevent you from just being yourself sometimes. If it takes a dense concealer to cover it up & make you feel better.. Then just go for it! These kinds of concealers are what helped me cope with my acne attack earlier this year.

The Happy Light collection is in stores now and features a whole range of products: a foundation, two different serums and this concealer. This concealer comes in two shades: 21 Ivoire & 22 Beige Rose. I use 21 Ivoire, which is perfect for anyone used to using the Healthy Mix foundation in 51. I read that the foundation shades are quite a lot darker than the Healthy Mix ones, so I would suggest not to buy your regular shade number unless you’ve tried the tester on your cheek. The Happy Light Ultra-Covering Concealer retails for €8.99
