A Weekend in London with South Place Hotel & Honest Burgers

Earlier this year we snatched some cheap Eurostar tickets during a sale and treated ourselves to an unexpected weekend of London. I lived in London for a short while as an au pair and I still miss the city very much - I hope my career can take me there again, but this time full on & with our own place to live life to the fullest. This time we stayed at South Place Hotel which is situated in the City - a beautiful high luxury hotel with a very homely feel thanks to the wonderful staff that gave us a very warm welcome. This is really a place to feel at home, away from home.

The hotel is very close to two tube stations with a very decent connection: Moorgate and Liverpool Street. You might think that it’s pretty far away from everything as it’s in the City - but this is not true at all. It’s actually perfect to wind down in the City at night when it’s quiet, especially during weekends when it’s virtually empty there. We stayed during the weekend and only saw businessmen check in from Sunday afternoon on, the other guests were mostly tourists. The hotel room was not too big, but not small either. There was a little corner by the window where I enjoyed a coffee in the morning, although I did have a view on some building works across the road.. Which isn’t the hotel’s fault of course.

Just a short tube ride away from the hotel is an Honest Burgers restaurant, located in King’s Cross on the corner of Pentonville Road. It’s a very cool place with a relaxed and local atmosphere, and the burgers and fries are just.. amazing! Rosemary & thyme fries, local cheeses and fresh beef patty’s make this affordable chain a must-visit. Stijn enjoyed a locally brewed beer, and the house cocktail with cucumber was very nice as well!

Back to the hotel.. The bathroom was pretty much amazing. Completely in marble and with a HUGE tub, it was my hideout after dinner on Saturday evening. After enjoying some last cocktails in the bar downstairs, I finished my drink in the bath tub that could easily fit both of us. It was really.. huge! The perfect way to wind down after a day of hopping around the city trying to absorb as much of it as we could. I slept like a baby afterwards.

I wish I had taken more pictures of the hotel, but for some reason I mostly forgot.. Looks like I was enjoying the moment way too much! While South Place Hotel isn’t in our regular budget, it was definitely worth the splurge when taking into account that we bought a very cheap train ticket. I’m already looking forward to our next stay.. And promise to take more pictures to give an accurate feel of the hotel atmosphere. I think I’m hooked!
